ok, let's speak of annuals then

ok, let's speak of annuals then;
starting early spring
like painting with numbers
a dab here a dab there
all across the page they bloom —
fill-in the scene, color and silk-screen
always at ground level where they stay
in contrast and emphasis
to those around them
but alas, at the death of the season
their lot is also that —
they perish, leave behind little clumps
gold-brown then to dust,
whereas the others like roses they stay —
they keep on growing, blooming
throughout the year and so
they persist and wait
to be harvested —

ok, let's speak of annuals then
